Through the year, our homes can get filled with clutter and mess. Whether it is the food crumbs in our kitchen drawers or the many books upon our nightstand, there are ways for us to give a deep cleaning to our homes, so that it can be returned to bright and clean spaces.
In the Kitchen
Cleaning the Outside of the Refrigerator
Using a mixture of salt and seltzer water is one of the top cleaners for refrigerators. And for good reason, the fizziness of the seltzer water combined with the grainy consistency of the salt makes it a fantastic cleaner. You can use this mixture for cleaning both the inside and the outside of the fridge.
Make Faucets Shine
The perfect way to remove buildup near the faucet is to simply place paper towels over the fixture, immerse it with vinegar and let it sit for about an hour. Once you do that, the buildup softens and it becomes much more manageable to remove.
Freshen up the Dishwasher
With all the dishes we make and meals we eat, the dishwasher can be a messy place. To remove stuck-on food or stains, you can pour baking soda on a damp sponge or towel and apply it to the edges of the dishwasher.
To clean the inside of the dishwasher, run an empty cycle with your detergent and add a quarter cup of bleach to the regular dish cycle to kill the bacteria. Your dishwasher and dishes will be undamaged and sanitized once that rinse cycle is finished!
Line Your Oven For Easy Cleaning
In order to keep your oven clean, you can add a nonstick oven lining to the bottom of the oven. This type of liner works best because it can be cleaned with a paper towel, put in the dishwasher, and reused again and again.
In the Bedroom
Bring New Life to Bed Linens
Washing all your bed linens and the mattress cover will help you rest easy. It’s recommended to use warm water rather than hot, to avoid shrinking fibers. Ready to invest in new lines? Changing up linens and comforters to a lighter neutral color will give your room a new look.
Get Rid of Clutter
Declutter any and all surfaces in your bedroom. Look around. Do you have items on top of your dresser or nightstand? Store away items you haven’t used in the past six months.
Do A Little Dusting
Dust and clean all tops of surfaces and wipe down the edges and bases of all your furniture. The simplest option is a damp cloth.
Don’t forget the Lamps! Clean and dust any and all accent lamps or other decorative furniture or surfaces.
Wash the Windows
Clean windows with a soapy rag and water. Using a second rag, dry the window. You can also buy a windshield squeegee to do the same job with more ease.
