What is a Frita Cubana?
A frita (free-tah) cubana is the Cuban hamburger. The patty consists of ground beef and pork and chorizo. It is topped with shoestring potatoes stuffed into a soft Cuban bun.
The frita cubana dates back to the early 1900’s. They were sold out of carts on the streets of Havana using stoves fueled by propane. Quickly and affectionately the people who made these delicious hamburgers were called “friteros”.These Cuban hamburgers became the national snack. They were enjoyed after baseball games, after a movie or late at night after a cabaret show.Then after the revolution and Castro took over friteros and their carts slowly disappeared. Ground beef was hard to find and the hamburger became obsolete. It didn’t entirely disappear though, because it later re-emerged in the United States.

¿Qué es una Frita Cubana?
Una frita (free-tah) cubana es la hamburguesa cubana. Consiste de carne molida de res, cerdo y chorizo. Se cubre con papas pequeñas en un panecillo cubano suave.
La frita cubana se remonta a principios del siglo 1900. Fueron vendidos en carretas en las calles de La Habana utilizando estufas alimentadas con propano. Rápida y cariñosamente a las personas que elaboraban estas ricas hamburguesas se les llamaba “friteros”.
Estas hamburguesas cubanas se convirtieron en la merienda nacional. Se disfrutaban después de los partidos de béisbol, después de una película o en la noche después de un espectáculo de cabaret. Luego, después de la revolución, Castro se hizo cargo de los friteros y sus carretas desaparecieron lentamente. La carne molida era difícil de encontrar y la hamburguesa se volvió obsoleta.
